Apron is creating a regenerative community farm in Lancing

Our Plan

Over the next five years, we will re-develop a former equestrian site in south Lancing, returning the land to food production and creating a vital natural space for people and wildlife to co-exist in harmony.

The regenerative Apron Community Farm, Wetland, and Heritage Craft Centre will give the diverse local community an accessible place to connect with each other, grow food, learn new skills, and enjoy arts, crafts, and culture in a natural setting.

2026

The first stage of our Community Farm development has been green-lit!

We are delighted to announce that Adur District Council has approved planning for the first stage of development for Apron Community Farm.

We are so excited to return to the roots of the area by cultivating the land with the community.

Building on the hedgerow planting we carried out earlier this year, the fruit and vegetable plots will give residents and community members the opportunity to get outside, grow, and meet people, in a peaceful natural environment. We can’t wait to get growing over the summer!

In celebration of the historic heritage of the site as a former salt farm Apron is excited to introduce a wood-fired mobile community sauna - Salt Grass Sauna - to Lancing. We look forward to joining the growing network of mobile saunas locally, by bringing together the wellbeing and social benefits of being in nature with the health benefits of sauna - at a subsidised rate for members of the local community . We anticipate that the sauna will be up and running by the Autumn 2026, keep watching our website and social media for updates.

We are so grateful to all of you who donated to our Crowdfunder so far, raising a total of £5,030, which will be spent on creating the community growing spaces.

We will be sharing details of opportunities to visit the site and get involved in this important step very soon.

Our Crowdfunder is still live and we welcome any new donations to help bring the community farm project to life so please share our story with your friends and communities!

March 2026

As spring unfolds we are delighted to share that the planting of the first hedgerow saplings has taken place at Riverside, as proposals for the Apron Community Farm take shape.

Last week, Seaside Primary School and residents living most local to the site were invited to help plant the first saplings. This activity was led by Apron, with the support of the Woodland Trust and Weald to
Waves. And is was an opportunity for local residents to be part of this exciting moment for the farm, by planting a tree.

Further tree planting sessions are being organised with local Lancing community organisations, including Adur Voluntary Action, to ensure members of the local community have an opportunity to be involved in this important first step to creating their local community farm.

As we continue our work developing the project regular updates and opportunities for involvement will be shared with the community.
